UD555 Parametric Urban Design
Parameterizing the generative urban block
As the nucleus of collective urban form comprising buildings within certain plot layouts, ‘urban block’ is rarely considered as a design unit which vaguely falls in-between architectural design of the building and site planning. In this context, the Fall Studio in the term of 2016-2017 specifies designing block as the major theme of the research. The research conducted by design is done in the way of prototyping diverse typologies of urban block via algorithmic modelling. Contextualising the models in Suriçi, Diyarbakir where the traditional urban fabric was severely injured during the military conflict taken place in 2015. By the model variations, the design groups have been systematically searched for alternative programs for the future regeneration of the war-torn urban fabric.
